S2 E14: Down & Out Darlene vs. the Mean Teen

714 Delaware St.

In our latest installment of 714 Delaware St., we discuss the two most recent episodes of The Conners, “Beards, Thrupples and Robots” and “Tats and Tias.” We express our sadness at the dashing of Jackie’s relationship hopes with Ron and Janelle (who are not what they seem), lament the show’s overly simplistic and ungenerous plot involving Becky and Emilio’s hostile aunts, and provide a thorough analysis of the central storyline involving Darlene and Harris. With Darlene and Ben’s new magazine still ramping up, Darlene turns to Harris for a job at Price Warehouse. Suddenly she’s the one acting like a bratty, entitled teen, and we take a closer look at Darlene and Harris’s fraught relationship, Harris’s flippant attitude, and Darlene’s inability to be assertive and set rules for her children. We also explore the usual tangents on issues such as the deeply troubling Tiger King, Crossroads and our national need to protect Britney, Maura’s love for ’90s Britpop assholes Oasis, and Katherine’s fascination with Honey Boo Boo.
